Disciples of Loaves and Fishes Critique Church Amusements
A North Main Avenue Baptist sermon denounces church fundraisers as gambling like wheel of fortune. Rev W G Watkins argues such amusements undermine church aims, urging faith based tithes and honest fundraising instead. The piece shifts to religious notices on the Sodality reception and Mary’s intercession with new postulants and members.

Money for the Hospital Urges $75,000 Build Upgrade Planned
The State Board of Charities will recommend a $75,000 appropriation to Lackawanna Hospital to add a new women’s ward on the northern side of the old building. The old women’s ward is overcrowded with 27 applicants refused this month and no nurses’ accommodation. An administration wing will be built between wards after demolition of the old unit, with a contagious disease ward and ambulance stabling also planned. The president, James Dickson, notes the hospital’s work includes 18,000 patient days in the past year at a cost under $1 per day, and urges public support for completing the project.
