Ceuta prison hell where Cuban rebels toil and suffer
Narration of Ceuta, Spain’s penal island for Cuban prisoners. Convicts work the stone heaps under brutal flogging, with guards, hunger, and filth. Escapes by four trusties fail after a dramatic plan, ending with a piratelike pursuit and a sinking boat. Carrera's escape reaches France and New York, with his fate unresolved.

Brougham's Practical Jokes Charm New York Theatres
Curtis Guild recalls John Brougham's prank at the Howard Athenaeum where an after dinner Irelander disrupted a performance to reveal Brougham playing a staged disturber. The ruse echoed later in New York with Burton at Chamber Street Theatre and culminated in a famous stage door exit gag. Brougham died June 7, 1880, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
