Permanent decalcomania process for porcelain and glass

German inventor W. Wachter of Simenau patents a decalcomania method to burn images onto porcelain and glass. A carbolic acid and oil of cloves solution is applied to the picture’s back, and a sticky lacquer on the surface prevents slippage during transfer before firing in a kiln. The lacquer burns away entirely, leaving the image fused to the surface.
