The Detroit law firm Dickinson Thurber and Stevenson dissolved due to political differences after the Chicago convention. Dickinson and Thurber remain. Stevenson resigned as Michigan delegation and state central committee chair but stayed active for Bryan and Sewall. Articles of dissolution were signed Saturday.
In Herkimer New York on August 20 the Platt and Miller factions of the Republican party held separate conventions, reflecting factional division within the party. Local leaders and delegates gathered to assert their positions and influence upcoming party activities.

Cincinnati Aug 20 The Cincinnati Post prints special letters from Senators Sherman Lodge Thurston General Grosvenor and others on how Republicans will fulfill pledges to promote international bimetallism. Suggestions range from cautious prophecy to diplomatic negotiation monetary conference and presidential commissions for a global metal value agreement.
Harrisburg on August 3 governor Hastings named J. Humphrey Marshall to fill the unexpired term of the late Delaware County Sheriff Carr and Captain Isaac Johnson of Media to join the state board of charities replacing W. B. Lamberton who resigned in Harrisburg.
Buffalo reports Tommy Ryan champion welterweight of America defeated Dick Moore of Indianapolis in a hard clean twenty round bout at the Empire Athletic club Lyceum theater.

Clarksville Arkansas August 10 Johnston county farmers near La Hi have started white cap patrols to deter cotton thieves. For years thieves have stolen cotton cattle and hoes from neighboring farms. Tuesday night about twenty five farmers warned several families suspected of theft to leave the area. The suspects reportedly armed themselves with shotguns, raising expectations of further clashes.
Explosion at Furnace 1 o of Edgar Thomson Steel works in Pittsburg injures ten workers, three seriously. Names include Mike Straski John Lervick and Burma as burns occur head, body and feet but recovery expected. Cause cited as molten iron striking water. furnace not damaged.
