Third Vice President Sees Slow Shift From Steam to Electric

A Pennsylvania railroad official predicts electricity will not replace steam on long runs without radical changes in generation and use. An “electric weed killer” using a dynamo and wires is tested to electrobeat weeds along tracks. A New York rail presidents meeting discussed east west rate demoralization, and rail stats show 976 roads with 12,588 miles of electric, horse and cable track. The Pennsylvania line expands heavy 100 pound rails between Broad Street and Paoli and more heavy rails and tires are being installed with minimal service disruption. Freight equipment orders total at least 000 cars, including orders from Cleveland Lorain and Wheeling, Michigan Peninsular Car, Wells and French, and Pullman.
