Gas Use Suggested for Wilkes-Barre Crematory

Superintendent Marcus Smith of the Gas company urged Wilkes-Barre citizens to consider using natural gas from the river to power a garbage crematory. A suitable site on the flats could house a facility large enough for the city, keeping it away from high water. Pipe delivery of gas would end riverbank dumping that breeds fever, a long-urged municipal need. If approved, the plan would utilize waste gas with minimal cost and effort. George Windish, alleged murderer, was held without bail after a final hearing before Squire Davison on the murder charge.
