Consul Williams Reports War News and Local Anecdotes
In a Rochester family letter Consul G F Williams describes fine June weather in New York state and naval movements as the German warship Cormorant sails. He notes Aguinaldo’s requests to Dewey for Red Cross transports, hospital conditions in Cavite and Manila, and Spanish defenses. A humorous street scene contrasts intelligent-looking strangers with a Columbus statue misidentification. A Petersburg pastor’s dog named Tyras is highlighted as a local curiosity.
