Scranton Social Scene Notes Highlight Weddings and Deaths
The week features numerous Scranton society events, including weddings of Miss Julia A. Thomas and William A. Mott and Miss Emalene B. Killam with Dr. Green, plus ceremonies at St Luke's and Green Ridge churches. Social gatherings mark recovery and remembrance as the city mourns a regiment’s departure and honors veteran figures. Community events include Epworth League supper, Clara Schumann concert plans, and the opening of the Home for the Friendless.

Disappointed Women Miss Parade View From Lackawanna Ave
A large party of patriotic young women and friends watched troops pass on Wednesday night from a prominent Lackawanna avenue spot. When three exceptionally long street cars blocked the view they grew dismayed and mocked the scene. A boy drafted a stern letter to the street car company demanding apologies and possible action by the editor of a Hill paper if amends were not made.

Massive Station Crowd Sprouts War Time Festivities
At Scranton the Wednesday night scene drew extraordinary crowds with soldiers' parcels and cake mishaps. Naturalization denied due to wartime status
In a New York Pin case, Jose Pesadian and Pantilaco Lopes seek naturalization but are blocked by Judge Jake Cohen who cites that the wartime state with Spain prevents granting citizenship. Pesadian claims seven years in the U S and dated declarations. Lopes argues he was born in Boualt and insists he is not Spain’s subject. The judge reiterates the law, denying both applications.
