Dr Swallow's Defense in Capitol Fire Case

In Turrisburg on April 1 the joint legislative committees heard Dr Swallow defend his charge that the capitol fire resulted from car tires greasing the building. Witnesses offered little support for the allegation. Charles Stock testified he smelled oil at the elevator opening but could not confirm it fueled the blaze. S Linn Shell recounted seeing green flame in the cellar and attempting to extinguish it with water. Inspector McDetitt concluded the fire arose from hot ashes and sparks through a grate from the cellar site. The committee adjourned to reconvene at the chair's call.
