Chicago April 7 grain prices moved with mixed weekly statistics as speculators debated the winter wheat crop. May wheat rose 0.5 cent while May corn fell 4 1/2 cents and May oats slid 1/2 cent. provisions declined with lard and short ribs futures slipping amid a cautious cash market.
Chicago cattle receipts reached about 16 000 with 22 western cars noted. Prices ranged from good to prime for feeders and calf to be strong. Texas fed steers around 440 to 450, western steers 4200 to 4300. Sheep receipts 17 000 with lambs and yearlings higher and native lambs at 7.50 to 8.00 per hundredweight.
Market activity in East Buffalo shows higher prices for steers and heifers with 9,500 head reported. Cattle categories include medium to good shippers and export steers up to 2000.75, prime heifers around 6.05, and cows from 4.70 to 4.24. sheep and lamb receipts near 100 head with lambs higher and middling ranges for ewes.
