An advert-like fragment touts ground fabrics in white or colored grounds with ornate Swiss patterns, Persian effects, and Dresden stripes. It claims popularity in London and Paris work fabrics and highlights delicate white embroidered Swisses with simple star and dot motifs as newly appealing.
The store proclaims a large and complete stock of White Malls India Linens Nainsooks Victoria Lawns Piques and more. For waists dresses and wrappers it showcases Swivel Silks in multiple colors and patterns plus moire crystals and linen lace effects with vivid grounds and Persian styles.
Philadelphia reports a federation between the Amalgamated Association of Street Railway Employees and the American Railway Union. Philadelphia April 7 officials of the Pennsylvania Railroad deny knowledge of any movement among their workers toward joining the Amalgamated Association or American Railway Union. General Manager Prevost and Vice President Pugh express skepticism, saying such recruitment is improbable and they would expect some inkling if alliances existed.

Special to the Scranton Tribune reports two unknown men were killed on the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Railroad about three miles east of Hallstead. One man, German Jacob Walz, about 60, and Patrick Duffy, 21, were found mangled near the tracks. Both had recently left Scranton Poor House seeking work. they had no known relatives locally. The bodies were to be interred at Rose Hill cemetery with railroad company expenses.
The Utah state Republican convention in Salt Lake elected six delegates to the national convention. The platform backed free silver at 16 to 1 and reciprocity. Delegates named were Senators Brown and Cannon, Colonel Isaac Trombo, Congressman Allen, Thomas Kearns, and W. S. McCormick. They were not instructed and favor silver against McKinley. Allison is expected to win the vote.
