The U S House passed a 1.6 billion public works bill authorizing a seven mile concrete lined channel from the Arizona Canal through Scottsdale to the Salt River in Tempe to carry 40 000 cubic feet of water per second and reduce flood damage by up to 96 percent with 7.2 million federal funding and 1.8 million county share. Also approved were dams and detention basins on Cave Creek Creamy Draw Union Hills and other sites, plus a Santa Rosa Wash reservoir and Little Colorado River work.
