The Senate Finance Committee voted 11 to 5 to reject Carter’s gas guzzler tax while approving a 400 credit for home insulation. The panel also backed a 2200 credit for solar wind or earth powered heating, and kept a floor vote open for the tax amid broader energy tax doubts.
Scottsdale City Council reaffirmed support for continuing the Line 22 bus subsidy to ASU for about 500 Scottsdale and northeast Phoenix students after the Arizona Board of Regents rejected a joint funding proposal. City leaders aim to fund through year end with Phoenix, Tempe, ASU contributing.
A draft five year contract between the Chicago Cubs and the City of Scottsdale would remove the Charros as the middle man in Cubs spring training. City official David Harris said he will present the draft to the city council baseball committee soon. The plan, agreed in June, would have the Charros manage exhibition games and the city contract directly with the Cubs for spring training at four new fields to be built at Indian School Park.
