Orme Dam Seen Vital for Phoenix Flood Control

Herbert Donald of Maricopa County Flood Control District says current Salt and Verde River dams are inadequate for flood protection and Orme Dam is needed at the confluence east of Phoenix. He cites 175 000 CFS peak flow and proposes Orme to cut it to 50 000 CFS while providing CAP water storage and flood control capacity. Roosevelt Lake would remain a key flood control reservoir with about 1.4 million acre feet, and Orme would add about one million acre feet dedicated to flood control.
