Kon Tiki Motel clerk dies after shoot-out with robber
Ray Nichols 32 died in a Phoenix hospital after a Thursday night shoot-out with would be robber Allen LePitre 28 who fled the eastside Kon Tiki Motel scene and died outside with three chest wounds. Nichols had a history of handling gun violence at the hotel including a 1970 robbery and a February shooting of a would-be robber. LePitre was identified as the gunman linked to four prior robberies at three motels and a liquor store since February 18.
