Police chased a man armed with a .45 caliber gun near Kiel Auditorium where President Ford was to speak. The suspect, estimated 30 to 35, fled into a parking garage after a police pursuit. About 200 officers aided the search with reserves called in.
In Nashville ten inmates were shot and 28 injured during a six hour upheaval at the Tennessee State Prison. The disturbance began over a dinner complaint about the substitution of cold Bologna for pork chops and included looting of supplies. Initial reports of a single gunshot wound were revised as officials checked all inmates.
About 875 women in four Boston sections staged mothers prayer marches under somber skies calling for the intercession of the Blessed Mother to stop forced busing of children under the city desegregation program.
