Freedom of the Hills Shaping Arizona Mountaineers
The Arizona Mountaineering Club, about 75 members strong, runs a 30 hour novice climbing school led by Dick Aleith teaching knots, safety lines, rappelling and outdoor ascent skills at Carefree and Papago Butte. Graduation climbs culminate on Camelback with rope teams of five or six, as members progress toward harder routes and potential Sierra trips.
