Loyal Environmental Systems proposed to Scottsdale Mesa Tempe and the Salt River Indian Community a waste recycling and reclamation facility on the Indian community landfill. The Kemp Converter System would separate refuse and recover petrochemicals shipped to refineries and cut landfill volume by 90 to 95 percent. Prison Escapees Apprehended After High Speed Chase Near Phoenix
Phoenix AP report: Richard Benfield and Wayne Settle, both escaped State Prison inmates, were captured on New River Road after a high speed chase. A third man, Dennis Garrison, believed accomplice, was seized. Police noted past threats to kill officers. Benfield once telephoned the Phoenix Republic newsroom to deny statements. Also, Ray Chatman, a convicted murderer, fled from an outside prison compound in Pinal County.

Oil imports erode U.S. trade balance in September
The United States posted an eighth straight monthly trade surplus of 976.4 million dollars in September as imports rose 2.9 percent led by a 9.5 percent jump in oil. Exports gained 1.9 percent while foreign investments, especially from the UK and Canada, rose sharply to 103.7 billion dollars in 1974.
