Obituary for J Henry Jenkins Retired Coal Miner

J Henry Jenkins, 74, a retired coal miner, died Monday at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. He lived at 1132 N 74th St and belonged to Papago Peaks Baptist Church. Born in Mahanoy City Pennsylvania, he moved here four years ago from Ft Lauderdale Florida. Survived by wife Mary son John T Scottsdale daughter Lois Williams Glendale three brothers and six grandchildren. Viewing at Messinger Mortuary 5 to 9 p.m. today. Services and burial will be in Mahanoy City.

Thomas Improving After Heart Transplant Rejection

Everett Thomas of Phoenix was readmitted October 9 at St. Luke's Hospital with signs of rejecting the heart from a May 3 transplant. A hospital spokesman said he is responding to anti rejection drugs and his vital signs are normal.

French Foreign Minister Michel Debre said Johnson's courageous policy in Vietnam is bearing fruit signaling a major peace offensive. President Johnson signed a gun control bill and issued an executive order shifting enforcement of foreign gun rules to the Treasury. The laws ban interstate mail order sales of long guns and ammo effective Dec 16, require handgun buyers to be 21, rifles 18, and demand dealer recordkeeping and seven day mail-order wait periods.

Burglars Target City Pool Bath House and School Shop

Police report burglars broke into the Scottsdale Municipal Pool bath house and pried open cabinets where a resuscitator unit was kept. At Pima School on Osborn Road burglars entered through a damaged wall hole though nothing appeared missing. A diamond wedding ring valued but not yet appraised was reported stolen from Mrs. Betty Kaufherr's home on 78th Place.

Mass to honor Father Owen da Silva at Casa de Paz y Bien

A memorial mass will be held Wednesday at 7 30 p m at Casa de Paz y Bien for Father Owen da Silva founder of the Franciscan Retreat House at 5802 E Lincoln Drive. Friends of the Casa are invited to attend to mark the first anniversary of his death and refreshments will follow in the lounge.

Backfire Damages Truck at Avalon Avenue Site

The Rural Fire Department reported a carburetor backfire causing about 50 dollars in damage to a truck owned by Conditioned Air Co. at 6830 E Avalon. The blaze started around 11 a.m. Monday. Earlier, at 8 15 icemen responded to a grass fire at 61st St and Thomas Rd with no loss.
