Scottsdale Players Stage Three One Act Plays
The Scottsdale Players presented three original one act dramas at Stagebrush Theatre Community Center Grounds last night. The Summer of St Martin by Frank Langer directed by Ella Mario Stout features a hotel owner Alfred and Chucho amid prejudice with strong acting sets and costumes. The second play Not Far From the Gioconda Tree by Tim J Kelly directed by Trudy Hurley is a closet drama set on Dufferin Terrace and portrays Elizabeth and a poor young man in a clash of wealth and dreams. A Dream Like the Three Noblewomen written by Kelly directed by Mrs Hurley stages Russian nobles in private dream worlds near Jerusalem. Producer Jeff Lantis designed all three sets with tickets at the door and admissions of 1 dollar for the public. free for Players members.

Dr. Clifford Smith directs a district census with over 800 volunteers surveying Scottsdale’s 20 000 plus elementary and high school enrollment. A report to the board is expected by Nov 1 to guide future building needs staffing and transportation, possibly preceding a bond issue.

Rear End Crashes Involve Multiple Cars
Two minor traffic accidents occurred yesterday. In Deming New Mexico driver Michael Lynn Bowling 20 hit Ronnie Andrews 17 from Scottsdale pinning Andrews into a pole near Papa Go Bowling Lanes. Bowling was cited. A second three car collision on Paradise Paseo and Scottsdale Road involved Davidé M Blaylock 22 and James K Joyner 43 and James J Cemenski 32 all of Mesa with citations for following too closely.

Bogus check artist still active in Scottsdale report
Police noted several crimes yesterday but focused on a continuing bogus check operation in Scottsdale. The Hawaiian Shop at 62 West Fifth Street reported a customer bought clothes with a check that later bounced. Robberies were also reported within hours. A resident said someone entered her bedroom and stole a diamond ring. A second resident reported tools and camping gear taken from a storeroom using a stolen key. A third person reported camping and sporting equipment stolen from an unlocked utility room.

Pre-Trial Set For Eastside Annexation Suit
A pre-trial for the eastside annexation dispute involving Joseph Smalley and Scottsdale is scheduled for October 30 at 9 30 a m. Charles Brewer, special assistant attorney general and plaintiff spokesman, says the case challenges the 1961 annexation as invalid due to insufficient assessed valuation on petitions. The area covers about six square miles east of Scottsdale with roughly 20 000 residents.
