Bruce Parkinson of the Employment Security Commission reports a drop in county unemployment from 9,400 in March to about 7,000 currently. The current jobless rate is just under 10 percent of total employment.
Lt. Comdr. John F. Betak U. S. Naval Reserve officer spent the weekend with his wife Dorothy and children, returning Monday to Moffett Field California on active duty. Betak recently came back from the Berlin airlift where he flew 103 missions and earned the Air Medal. He is a former University of Arizona student and has served 14 years in the Navy.
Five Scottsdale girls were selected to represent Maricopa county in the Arizona State Fair 4-H judging contests on November 12. Betty Dees Robbie Wright and Joan Walt will judge the clothing contest with Shirley Adams and Betty Baggio on the food judging team. The selections came after a county wide field day Saturday at the Maricopa County Agricultural Extension service office in Phoenix.
