Valley districts refinance bonds to expand capacity and save costs

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors opened bids to refinance about 13 million dollars of Paradise Valley School District bonds. The move cuts interest from about 4.54 to five percent, extends five to six year maturities, and adds roughly 4 million in bonding capacity for two elementary schools and part of a new high school. District officials say the plan lets them retire old debt while investing savings in higher-yield securities to finance future projects. The board also approved requests to exceed operating budgets for career education programs and to reimburse Paradise Valley High School and Scottsdale High for summer and cancer education projects.
