Plan for six Valley hospitals to share facilities

A proposed plan for six Valley hospitals to share facilities to cut costs has been presented but not approved. Camelback Hospital administrator Frank Dunning says a news report claiming approval was erroneous. Other hospitals note only informational attendance and no final decision.

Humphrey backs Nixon on Vietnam despite critiques

Former vice president Hubert Humphrey left a White House meeting saying President Nixon is proceeding along the right path on Vietnam. He supported Nixon on troop withdrawals and urged not to undermine the president though differences remain. Defense chief Laird disclosed August orders push a maximum effort to ready Vietnamese forces, and Nixon recalled Lodge from Paris for a meeting next week.

Scottsdale Woman Says She Stabbed Attacker in Self Defense

Christine Flynn told police she saw a man at her rear home area around 11 30 pm and was grabbed from behind in the alley. She said she stabbed the assailant three times with a carving knife she carried for defense, forcing him to flee, with a small amount of blood found on the knife.

Family Fun Night at VFW Post 35 Invites All

Valley industrial park to be dedicated Nov 1

The 35 acre Salt River Indian Reservation park near Scottsdale will be formally dedicated November 1 with state and national dignitaries in attendance. JWJ Contracting Co built the site at a cost of 138,948, grading, utilities, two roads, fire hydrants and a planned sewage plant. Speakers include Harold Schurz tribal chairman and Fillmore Carlos Inter Tribal Council chairman.

Bargain Days sale planned at Scottsdale YWCA Center

The Scottsdale YWCA announces a Bargain Days sale starting Saturday 8 a.m. at the YWCA Center 4615 N Granite Reef Rd. Items include cameras furniture motorcycles clothing and jewelry with donations welcome. Grass fire and disturbances sweep Scottsdale area

Grass fire behind 7030 E Carol in North Scottsdale burned a large brush pile with no identifiable cause. Molotov cocktail burn near Pima Rd and McDowell Rd prompted a nighttime Scottsdale police call. No damages reported. Additional calls included a dishwasher smoke incident at 6454 E Jenan and a car fire with 10 damage to an auto at 6501 Gary Rd due to the hydraulic system.

Scottsdale duo chosen for 15th Arizona Town Hall

C C Cooper president of the Arizona Water Resources Committee and David B. Kret state senator from Scottsdale were named participants in the 15th Arizona Town Hall to be held Sunday through Wednesday. Members of the Chapter 295 National Association of Retired Civil Employees will gather at Ferguson's Cafeteria Tempe on Monday at 11 30 for their fall meeting. Fitness leader John Hoefle wins Camelback Jaycee Award

John Hoefle of 6844 HE Diamond is named this year’s Camelback Jaycee Physical Fitness Leadership Award winner. The banquet marked the charter chapter’s fifth anniversary and honored Hoefle with honorary membership. Ruth Hoefle received appreciation honors. Last year Jonathan Marshall of Scottsdale Progress won state and national honors in physical fitness leadership.

Thieves broke into Betty Wheelwright’s home on Thursday between 8 15 a m and 3 15 p m taking a typewriter guitar pocket watch and some money valued at 645 dollars Police believe entry was through a tear garage door The Holiday Oldsmobile on Scottsdale Road suffered a drive shaft removed from one car and a shift knob from another valued at 116 dollars burglars acted between 10 p m Wednesday and 8 a m Thursday.

Market Dow Jones closes higher with broad gains

The Dow Jones industrial average ends at 806.96 up 3.17 while railroads rise to 196.09 up 1.97 utilities at 110.78 up 0.80 and the total stocks index at 273.23 up 1.43. Daily trading reaches 12.21 million shares versus 10.42 million on Thursday.
