Humphrey seeks McCarthy support in presidential bid

Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey pressed Eugene J. McCarthy for backing as McCarthy pressed for conditions. Humphrey said he hopes his stance on halting bombing and draft reform could win McCarthy’s support, while McCarthy urged firmer U.S. action on Vietnam and Saigon governance. Nixon campaigned in Minnesota and California as polls dominated the race and Wallace charged poll rigging.

Preliminary hearing opens for Mrs. Shirley Hatch murder case

In Flagstaff Justice Court the preliminary hearing for Mrs. Shirley Hatch, charged with first degree murder, resumed with newsmen allowed to attend. Judge EF Brierley had earlier ordered a closed hearing at the request of Hatch’s attorney. the case concerns the Sept. 24 fatal shooting of James Niblett, 19, at a local trailer park and injuries to his mother.

Scottsdale hearing set for assessment district P-6712

Resolution 616 initiates a public hearing by the Scottsdale Council on the improvement district P-8712 description. The hearing, at 8:00 P.M. Arson suspected in three Tempe car fires

Rural Fire Department probes possible arson in three Tempe car fires on Wednesday afternoon. One car interior sustained about 200 dollars in damage at 735 S. Apache owned by Ei. H. Peterson. another at 7902 E McDowell caused about 70 dollars damage to the interior of a car owned by Mrs. Ada M. Miller. a third interior fire at Papago Plaza damaged Parker’s car at 2377 N. 51st Place. Fire officials urge locking cars to prevent such damage alongside a Scottsdale Wilshire Rd field fire and several false alarms in the day.

Edward G. Smith age 25 of 7301 E Palomino and his visiting Kansas parents pleaded guilty in city court Wednesday to disturbing the peace after a bar disturbance at Pueblo Bar on 2709 N Scottsdale Rd. Smith was fined 56 dollars. parents received suspended fines as officers assisted.

Propositions IV Seeks Uniform Mobile Home Taxation

The Arizona proposition to change mobile home taxation to the same basis as conventional homes will be on the general election ballot. Legislators say the plan would align levies and distribution with other residences and support for reducing school district property taxes.

Tape Deck Stolen From Car At Saguaro High

Police report a stereo tape deck valued at 60 dollars was stolen from a car in the Saguaro High parking lot on Wednesday. The owner is Scott Clark a student at Saguaro. Also missing were about 30 dollars in change and two microphones from Marvin Woodfill s home. The thief passed on watches and jewelry but took a pop sicle from a freezer box leaving the rest melted on the counter.

West German Starfighters Crash Raises Air Loss to Ninety

The Defense Ministry reported two West German Air Force Starfighters crashed on Wednesday. Both pilots were killed, raising total Starfighter crashes to 90.
