Scottsdale paratrooper Curtis Tarkington dies in Vietnam action
Curtis Ray Tarkington 19, a Scottsdale High star athlete and paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Division, was killed by artillery fire near Bien Hoa on a landing approach. He enlisted in 1964 after attending Arizona State University brief ly and dreamed of a college coaching career. His mother Doris Tarkington and Scottsdale community remember him as proud of his country and of Scottsdale, with funeral plans pending.
