Heavy rocket barrages strike 39 towns and bases in Saigon area
Thirty nine towns and Allied bases faced mortars or rockets in the heaviest barrage in over three weeks. Gen Earle Wheeler warned of a coming winter offensive as Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces attacked 33 targets the first night and 16 locations sustained damage or casualties the next. Two U.S. soldiers were wounded in eight attacks, with civilian fatalities and injuries reported near Ho Nai and Binh Phuoc. Ground fighting remained light, though two Sunday assaults killed six Americans and wounded 19, while Amereal Division and 4th Infantry faced assaults with multiple casualties. B52s dropped about 600 tons of bombs in operations along the Cambodian frontier and Pleiku area.

West’s cold night prompts wide area frost and flood alerts
A large polar high brought a cold night across the region. Freeze warnings were in effect for Northwestern Kansas, Central and Northeast Nebraska, extreme Northwestern Iowa, and Northeastern Arizona, with frost in New Mexico and parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota. Youths Hurt in Rear-Impact Wreck on Scottsdale Road
Two 16 year old Scottsdale youths were treated for injuries at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital after their car was struck from behind on Scottsdale Road near Indian Bend Road early Sunday. Police said Charles Callahan and passenger Daniel Palen were northbound about 3 45 a.m. when David Fehrenkamp drove northbound and hit Callahan from behind. The Callahan car hit a block wall at McCormick Ranch. Fehrenkamp also left the road and hit a barbed wire fence. Fehrenkamp, 23, was cited for driving while intoxicated.
