Arizona House selects leaders amid minority post bid
Rep. Larry Bahill of Tucson won the minority leader post after fending off challenges from three fellow Democrats. The party also reappointed Edward Guerrero of Globe and Ben Hanley of Window Rock to second terms as minority floor leader and whip respectively. The State Supreme Court ruled the Arizona Board of Tax Appeals need not deliberate in public under judicial procedures, a decision criticized for undermining open meetings. City council approved a high rise fire code relaxation despite Fire Safety Advisory Board opposition, Mayor Hance abstaining over a possible conflict. A fire in downtown Yuma at the Rio Theater and nearby vacant businesses caused at least 100000 dollars in damage, with over 100 firefighters on scene.
