GOP governors split on Agnew question at Indiana meeting
At the French Lick conference, Republican governors debated Nixon’s running mate issue with no clear shift toward an anti-Agnew movement. Nixon’s entourage and Agnew aides attended briefly as Agnew used sharp rhetoric in a public talk. Governors like Francis Sargent avoided direct criticism, noting some moderation in Agnew’s inflammatory tone.
