Paradise Valley remains in business as town offices operate under a state court dispute over incorporation. The State Supreme Court denied a rehearing and sent the case back to Maricopa County for review. Officials say a potential re petitioning hinges on state law blocking new incorporations near larger towns.
Seven teenagers ages 15 to 17 have confessed to at least sixteen Scottsdale burglaries during a two month spree. Detected by a week of arrests, the youths attended local high schools and seized mainly cash from purses, sometimes after smoking marijuana. Two were detained, all seven referred to the county detention home.
Montana patrolman Ken Thorne reached the crash scene after a late model convertible left the road, rolled, and burned. Passenger Antoinette Lunde of Billings was thrown clear and uninjured while driver Patty Kennan fell 25 feet from the air, unconscious on a utility pole before later regaining consciousness with minor injuries.
The city planning commission unanimously rejected William and Mrs. Zier’s rezoning bid to change 12 Tots from single family to multiple family at 2035 N 7st St near Fry's Market. Opponents cited property value decline and neighborhood concerns amid a four year dispute with Fry's Market and the city.
The Phoenix City Planning Commission unanimously refused a rezoning petition for the southwest corner of 56th St and Indian School for commercial use. The plan, later narrowed to a service station and a bank facility, was denied following staff recommendation while Scottsdale School Board said it would not resist but wants notice of remaining acreage. Remaining residential zoning currently governs the land. Final action lies with the Phoenix City Council.

Gen. William Westmoreland arrived in Washington for a Vietnam summit with President Johnson and said real progress was being made. He asked for rapid deployment of promised troops, noted concerns about truce violations during holidays, and indicated no decision yet on a bombing pause. Weather outlook calls for fair skies, highs near 90.
Scottsdale School Board unanimously approved a plan to survey short and long range building plans. Supt John Tanner proposed a committee report by December 12 with counsel. The board also set 10 polling places for the December 5 bond election and named Scottsdale High as a polling site.
Phoenix senators caucused before noon and considered a bill using a 20 40 60 ratio for property assessments. Homes would be valued at 20 percent, commercial property at 40 percent, and mines and railroads at 60 percent. The measure may pass the Senate this week. The Attorney General’s Office said further hearings on the dismissal of State Insurance Director George Bushnell are unnecessary and canceled Monday night’s scheduled hearing.
