Jap Students Police Clash as Sea Dragon Arrives
About 28 000 people protested across 23 locations in Japan including Sasebo and Tokyo. In Sasebo clashes led to two arrests after police sought to bar fanatical students from demonstrations against the US nuclear powered submarine Sea Dragon visiting the port. A peaceful socialist and communist led protest also occurred. The Sea Dragon with a US crew moored near the Ajax supply ship, marking the first nuclear powered vessel visit to Japan.

Flier Rescued After Night Adrift in South Atlantic
Lowell Thompson of Spokane ditched a Cessna 182 during a flight from Recife Brazil to the Ascension Islands. He spent the night on a 20 man life raft before the freighter Robin Sherwood rescued him at daybreak. An Air Force plane guided the rescue and Thompson’s wreckage was recovered. He was hospitalized for shock exposure and minor injuries.
