Panel votes to ban natural gas for lights
A House-Senate conference committee backed a national energy bill provision to ban outdoor gas lamps after 1982. The plan prohibits new gas lamp hookups and requires existing ones to be shut off or converted to electricity by 1982, with a two year extension for replacements. Supporters say the ban could save up to 73 billion cubic feet of gas annually.
