Cowens quits Celtics amid personal leave request
Dave Cowens announced a personal leave of absence from the Boston Celtics, effective immediately, with no pay for an undetermined period. The 28 year old center cited personal problems and said the decision was his alone, as Celtics owner Irv Levin and president Red Auerbach approved the leave before a game with the Los Angeles Lakers. Cowens, who earns over 200000 yearly, maintains homes in suburban Boston and a Kentucky farm, and is known for his casual lifestyle.
