The Scottsdale Junior Chamber of Commerce creates an Americanism Committee to alert the people and shock them out of complacency. Fred Hannum, a four member panelist, says the group will erase the feeling that nothing will happen to us and will tackle national and local issues with activities to give people something to think about. Other members are Don Chambers Bill Bolin and Bob Peterson.

Mitchum says U S troops feared sea landings in film

Paris UPI Robert Mitchum said American soldiers were afraid to board landing craft for a D-Day scene in The Longest Day due to foul weather. He recalled jumping aboard first with actors and stunt men as 250 troops from the 16th Infantry, 8th Division, trained in Baumholder, Germany, endured rough seas.

Annexation group to push drive for 18 700 residents

The United Citizens for Scottsdale Annexation Committee plans a weekend drive to meet a November 26 deadline to annex 18 700 eastside residents. Coordinator George Tracy cites 2 473 in favor and 294 against, with $6 408 916 of assessed value on the pro side and a projected $10.5 million valuation.

73 Year-old Mrs Burriss Seeks Old Arizona Tales

The 73-year-old Mrs. M. B. Burriss, a former Chicago resident who arrived in Phoenix in 1914, seeks longtime Arizona residents to share memories of early Phoenix life. She recalls adobe houses, the view to Camelback and Squaw Peak, peaches sold to Adams Hotel, and life around Paradise Valley before the town grew.
