Stampede to ship new weapons before Vietnam truce
A high level U.S. civilian source says the White House failure to inform the Defense Department of truce talks led to a rush to bring in new weapons to South Vietnam before a peace accord. Officials protested when told the pact would ban new weapons and allow only replacements. The Pentagon said it was borrowing F5 Freedom Fighter jets from Iran, Taiwan and South Korea for the South Vietnamese Air Force.
