Miners migrate for work as copper slump bites Arizona
Foreign copper prices below production costs idled about 10 000 of 45 000 U S miners nationwide. Arizona saw 1 000 recalled to Asarco mines near Tucson while 1 500 at Lakeshore in Phoenix area faced indefinite layoff. Families relocate or scout new sites, with housing and school impacts mounting and unemployment aid stretched.
