McKellips Road to Close for Flood Project Work
McKellips Road between Miller and Hayden Roads will close for 60 days starting Monday for widening from two to four lanes and flood control work at the Indian Bend Wash. The joint $6.5 million project by the U S Corps of Engineers and Maricopa County Flood Control District includes a four lane bridge over the wash, new storm drain, curbs and sidewalks, and relocation of utilities. The effort, funded with $3.5 million for right of way and design and $3 million by the corps, aims to widen the corridor and improve approaches while traffic detours reroute around active construction. Scottsdale and Tempe share the road boundary, with Scottsdale not budgeting participation.
