The Bank of Scottsdale opens as the city’s first home owned and operated independent bank with federal deposit insurance. At 10 am on Fifth Avenue and Scottsdale Road, silver dollars will be sold for 98 cents each to celebrate the ribbon cutting and opening events.
Blond Miss Bank of Scottsdale will be weighed on a special-built scale at 5 30 p m Saturday as part of a ribbon cutting with Arnold J Grasmoen state superintendent of banks Mayor Mort Kimsey and Roland Feltman chamber of commerce president. Prizes include a model train set and two savings accounts. The bank offers a four way sliding drawer at drive in windows to serve cars of any height. The building features Arizona native stone teakwood and imported Italian marble in a western looking design.
Fresh replacements for part of the U S Army 6 500 man West Berlin garrison arrived from West Germany driving through East German territory with no incident. Capt William Walker 38 of Pittsburgh led the engineers convoy through Soviet checkpoints on the 110 mile Autobahn into West Berlin.
Gov. Paul Fannin will attend Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce Fall Round-Up at the Executive House with Wesley Bolin and Sam Mardian among dignitaries. The dinner dance features prizes including a Las Vegas Riviera stay, Executive House weekend, and gift certificates, plus entertainment by Dell O’Dell and Ted FioRito.
The administration building at Green Acres Memorial Gardens on Hayden Road south of McDowell will open about December 1. Mohawk Construction Co. built it with a chapel planned later, creating a 1 million dollar building investment. architect is John Schotanus.

The thief is believed to have picked a door lock.
