Beat or treat greets mother

A Scottsdale woman and her nine year old son were attacked by two boys about ages 12 or 13 while trick or treating. Mrs. Lavon D. Smith said the youths pushed her son into bushes and she fought them as they fled, later injuring her son with a cut lip.

Narcotics suspects face prelims in Scottsdale Justice Court

Six of fifteen suspects arrested west of Scottsdale were ordered to appear for preliminary examinations November 15 in Scottsdale Justice Court. Judge Harold Holcomb noted rights to waive to Superior Court. Names include John D. Edwards, Mark J. Dana, Richard M. Walker, Earl Baker, Kenneth A. Baker, and David D. Summers. Nine juveniles were sent to County Juvenile Court. Bill Ronald Scott pled guilty to illegal possession of dangerous drugs and was fined 210.

Bombing Pause Ends as Ground War Shifts South

UPI reports bombing North Vietnam halted at 5 am PST while forces move south to contest Viet Cong. A submerged mine near Saigon sank a US Navy ship killing 17 and wounding 22, with eight missing. Attacks on Saigon Hue and other cities killed at least 32 and wounded 87.

North Vietnam agrees to broaden peace talks in Paris

North Vietnam said its delegation led by Minister Xuan Thuy will attend a widened Paris meeting not earlier than November 6 1968 to seek a peaceful settlement of the Vietnam conflict. The talks will include South Vietnam Viet Cong and the United States. The statement came after President Johnson halted bombing and shelling of North Vietnam.

Sidewalk Sale at Papago Plaza Brings Old New York Flair

Papago Plaza in Scottsdale hosts its annual sidewalk sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the southwest corner of Scottsdale and McDowell Roads. All merchants participate offering bargain sidewalk items and feature hot dogs for five cents and soft drinks for one cent. The event evokes a little bit of old New York.

Political rally dance slated for Saturday at 8 30 p m at Scottsdale Boys Club invites candidates from both parties to speak. Johnson announced a bombing halt and broadened talks set to start next Wednesday with Saigon's possible participation and allied nations likely to attend peace negotiations. Harriman signaled a push for a political solution allowing South Vietnamese self determination, potentially via a plebiscite.

Indian silver work topic to be discussed at Casa Fiesta

Burglary Reported at Home of Charles Long

A coat valued at $65 and a ratio were stolen from the home of Charles R. Long sometime between October 15 and Thursday. Police say burglars broke the kitchen door glass to gain entrance. Long said he has been on vacation.

Stolen car burns after fire found near Pima Road

A stolen auto found stripped and burning near Shea Boulevard about 2:30 PM. The car, owned by Isabelle Austin of 1337 N 3Xth Place, was totally destroyed. Sheriff reports a stolen car on the vehicle. Firefighters also fought a grass fire near 8301 E Vernon at 7:05 PM with no damage to the owner.
