Navy finds no Scorpion trace as search broadens offshore

The Navy said no sign of the nuclear submarine Scorpion has been found eight days after last contact with its 99 crew. Vice Admiral Arnold F. Schade announced divers probed a mysterious 180 foot deep hulk off Virginia, but he doubted it was the Scorpion, noting if it were there would likely be survivors or debris. The search shifted from shallow Atlantic approaches to Norfolk to deep waters along the sub's projected track, and plans were set to probe near Cruiser Banks and Irving Banks south of the Azores, where contact was last made on May 23.

Saigon Battles Intensify as Viet Cong Attack Edges of City

South Vietnamese troops widened a western Saigon advance into a Viet Cong held zone, killing about 200 and forcing residents to flee. At Bing Loi bridge clashes raged near Bien Hoa air base as U S advisers reported a downed helicopter. A VC lieutenant colonel defected linking the attacks to Paris peace talks and said the fighting would endure for months.

Needle incident cleared at Mo Have School

Camelback Mountain ceremony features Kaibab Hopi students leaders
