Globemaster Crashes On Takeoff Killing Eighteen
A U S Air Force C-124 Globemaster crashed after takeoff from McChord Field Tacoma Washington killing 18 of 22 aboard. Four crewmen remained in critical condition at Madigan General Hospital as the downed jet scattered wreckage across a wide area. Air Force said communications were normal during the 522 a m takeoff with the plane only five miles from the field and 500 feet up when it plunged to earth.
