Advice from University of Arizona extension horticulturist Harvey Tate on applying nitrogen to bermuda lawns in Arizona. Use ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate, or ammonium nitrate at specified rates per 1000 square feet, water immediately after application, and avoid overfertilizing with heavy single applications. For organic mixes, use seven to ten pounds per 1000 square feet, and fertilize two to three times in summer.
