Scottsdale CC orders new mascot name picks after controversial referendum
Scottsdale Community College executive dean Marion Donaldson issued a memo nullifying Wednesday’s committee actions. The panel of four students three faculty and two staff will select three new mascot and color nominees after names like Artichokes Rutabagas and Marijuana were rejected as unsuitable for a student referendum. Donaldson cited potential ridicule and stated the actions were not tolerated while stressing the need for a choice the college and community can be proud of. A student spokesman said the prior names showed student opposition to a large sports program at the two year old college. Donaldson declined further comment for now.
