University tests show nitrogen best at 50 to 100 lb per acre for cotton
University of Arizona tests in 1951 find 50 pounds per acre of nitrogen most economical in most plots and 100 pounds best in some. Phosphate applications did not significantly raise yields though soil phosphate ranged race to 32 ppm and textures varied. General guidance is 50 to 100 pounds N per acre with up to 45 pounds available phosphate if soil is low in phosphates, adjusted to local conditions.
