U S park police estimated a May Day rally in the capital drew about 20 000 anti war demonstrators. About 500 military police were stationed across the Potomac River to monitor the event.
More than 400 Harvard Law School students sign a petition urging Congress to impeach President Nixon as the Indochina war continues. Three professors also sign the document.
President Nixon, in San Clemente, says he is prepared to handle any trouble from thousands of antiwar demonstrators marching in Washington to end the Indochina war. He respects their rights but warns they cannot break the peace at home while seeking peace abroad.
A Molotov cocktail was thrown behind the U S ambassador’s Paris residence around midnight five hours after a bombing at Bea an American car. Police guarded all American firms in Paris. No injuries were reported. Ambassador Arthur K Watson his wife and three sons were awakened by the blast.
Prime Minister Nihat Erim welcomed U S Secretary of State William P Rogers as he left Ankara aboard a U S Air Force plane for Riyadh on a mission to pursue Middle East peace.

Burnkrant departs amid controversy after three years of service including the Pueblo School bond and administrator development.
A 49-year-old Long Beach resident, Roger F. Jackson, was killed when his Vespa left the roadway on North Scottsdale Road in front of the Executive House. He died after being taken to Scottsdale Baptist Hospital around 3:42 p.m. on Friday. Police say he was part of the EL Bekel motor scooter group for the Shrine convention.
Ronald De Olson, 22, of Phoenix, died Thursday after a one car crash north of Scottsdale Road. Olson’s vehicle rolled over, and he died from his injuries. Passenger Charles Skinner, 32, of Tempe, was injured.
Elmo Roper a pioneer in public opinion and market research died at Norwalk Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 70 and lived in West Redding. Roper led the Roper Organization headquartered in New York. He entered the hospital two months earlier and had undergone three surgeries. An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause.
Arthur M. Wood of CFAE told 115 Valley executives at Camelback Inn that business contributions to colleges and universities should rise 10 percent annually for ten years, reaching about 600 million dollars by 1975 as 1969-70 giving fell 1.1 percent due to rising costs.
Mrs. Brian O'Neil of Longfellow School in Scottsdale invited two seven year old boys, Daniel Jones and another, to her home at 3511 North 70th Street for a weekend to show them life beyond deprivation. They visited McDonald’s, Tempe Centennial and the zoo, returning inspired and eager for future visits.
