Receiver named for Navajo funds
A Beverly Hills firm that handled over 13 million dollars in Navajo federal funds was placed under receivership after failing to produce nearly 5 million dollars demanded by the Navajo Housing Authority. A temporary receiver was appointed by U S District Court Judge Warren J Ferguson to take control of American Funding Corp the former Southcoast Funding Corp The housing authority said the company could raise the money in 120 days by liquidating investments but the judge rejected the plan noting no holdings substantiated the owed amount The case hinges on investment rules for Navajo funds used for low cost housing on the Navajo reservations in New Mexico Arizona and Utah and alleged improper investments outside certificates of deposit or government securities by AFC director Pat Chee Miller
