Mountain climber killed in Camelback fall near Echo Canyon
Craig Martin a 20 year old Progress press room employee from 8241 E Glenrosa Ave fell about 60 feet while climbing Camelback Mountain. He sustained massive head injuries and died shortly after at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Witnesses said he and a group including Jeff Herman 19 and others were climbing the Camel’s Head route when the fall occurred. Firefighters and a KOOL helicopter assisted. Martin a Saguaro High School graduate began work in December 1973. Mass will be held Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with bereavement at Messinger Mortuary.
