Internal conflicts at Hobo Joe's tied to Southwestern buys
Accounts reveal Southwestern Research Corp. bought over a quarter of Hobo Joe's in 1968 and later acquired the rest in 1970. Robert Goldwater and Martori recouped investments while Applegate allegedly diverted more than 1.5 million dollars for personal use before his 1974 death. Goldwater and Martori, informed in 1968, did not oust Applegate and later hired a private detective to probe the firm's affairs.
