Republicans unveil $71 million Arizona tax relief plan

House Majority Leader Burton Barr unveiled a plan to save Arizonans about 71 million dollars yearly. It would exempt owner occupied homes from the 1.60 state tax and cut income taxes by half a percent across the board. The proposal targets permanence and would remove the need for annual appropriations. It includes a 7.5 million dollar elderly tax credit and would remove tax liability for many couples with low incomes. Barr argued the plan would keep the money with the people and reduce reliance on annual rebates while facing questions about school funding and local district tax shifts.
