Beverly Marvin and her husband Jack, along with their two children, are among Arizona families adopting Transcendental Meditation to reduce stress and improve focus. They learned TM in Cambridge in 1973, practicing 15 to 20 minutes twice daily, a routine the family says relaxes pain and enhances creativity.

TM movement grows into world program under Maharishi

A college centered movement begun in the late 1950s led by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has become a worldwide organization. Transcendental Meditation teaches rest to improve mind and body function without special beliefs and lifestyle. By 1974 about 10 000 people monthly began the TM program and 900 000 have been taught since 1958. The World Plan Executive Council, founded in 1972, aims to place one TM teacher per million people and one SCI teacher per 1000. A World Plan Center exists in Phoenix at 2234 N Seventh St led by Larry Maddams, offering TM courses and related programs. The March 20 Spring Festival of the Age of Enlightenment is planned. The Maharishi International University in Fairfield Iowa, established 1970, will graduate its first freshman class in June and seek AC accreditation.
