Scottsdale service stations face restraints to curb growth
Scottsdale officials study criteria for station layout lot sizes landscaping and allied firms to prevent clustering at major intersections. Service Station Operators of Arizona leader John Nochta says a halt to new stations is needed until traffic supports 4500 to 5000 cars per station. The city counted 71 stations for about 25 000 vehicles suggesting 325 autos per station vs a break even goal. Nochta cites 30 000 gallons monthly per station and 37.8 cents per gallon to cover costs while noting most operators would sell out if paid 90 cents on the dollar. A stamp campaign success is noted as trading stamps decline.
